The UK electric car market continues to grow at pace, with recent sales figures indicating that EVs now account for more than half of the UK car market.
But despite this, EV uptake in Britain hasn’t been as rapid as expected, and the need for new incentives to support customers and manufacturers is now considered necessary to boost sales.
The UK government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG) launched in July 2025, with the aim of making EVs both more accessible and affordable for consumers.
The ECG offers a discount of up to £1500, or £3750 on certain EVs that are priced under £37,000. The discounted amount is dependent on the emissions output of the manufacturing country.
This new incentive means that electric cars are now cheaper than ever, with the grant significantly reducing the cost of the most affordable EVs currently on sale, while also making dearer options more accessib
